Health Connex

Health Care Initiative

Nova Scotians looking for access to quality medical information, personal health information storage, and more options re access to their family physician may soon find help is just a click away on their computer.

Nova Scotia's co-operatives and credit unions, in partnership with the provincial government, are working to launch a new web-supported medical service, HealthConnex. “People want to participate more actively in the management of their own care,” says Dianne Kelderman, CEO of the Nova Scotia Co-operative Council, and one of the principal's spearheading the initiative.

HealthConnex will provide services targeted to family physicians and their patients that change the focus of the doctor-patient relationship. Our health care system is designed to provide sickness care. HealthConnex changes the focus to proactive health management and care.

The service will help doctors have more time to focus on wellness and patient care. And we help families and individuals easily and affordably gain greater access to health and wellness services, and allow them greater management and proactive control of their health care.

“As a co-operative organization we are pleased to be at the forefront of this innovation, and we are proud that it will be owned by Nova Scotians and the benefits accrue to Nova Scotia. Co-operatives have always been focused on the needs of people and their communities. The health clinic is a logical extension for us in the provision of a range of products and services to our members,” Kelderman said.
