From time to time the Nova Scotia Co-operative Council will become involved with special projects that are beyond the organizations traditional mandate, but are viewed as worthwhile given their importance to the co-operative community. There are four such projects on the go right now.

Innovation Council In an effort to help stimulate the development of new ideas and new ways of doing business using the co-operative model, the council has formed a committee that will entertain innovative ideas for special financing.

Renewable Energy Initiative Sustainable energy options are important for everyone. The province and Nova Scotia Power have committed to increasing the use of wind-generated electricity by 20 per cent over the next three years. The development of community-owned wind turbines are a possibility worth considering.

Healthcare The Nova Scotia Co-operative Council firmly believes individuals need more control over the management of their own healthcare. That's why the council has been a strong supporter of Connecting People for Health Inc, (www.healthconnex.ca) a web-based medical clinic.

Youth Alliance The future of the co-operative movement will soon be in the hands of the next generation. Through the youth alliance young people learn about the importance of co-ops to the economy and can eventually sit on boards of co-ops in their local community.
